KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - THURSDAY, AUG. 31, 1989

                       STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - PAD 39-B

Installation of the Galileo and its Inertial Upper Stage
payload was completed yesterday and electrical connections are
          underway today.

Prepartaions for the helium signature leak check of the main
propulsion system and main engines are underway. The test is
          scheduled for tomorrow.

This weekend, technicians will install a dummy radioisotope
thermoelectric generator (RTG) in the two positions aboard the
Galileo spacecraft. This high fidelity exercise is designed to
verify procedures, provide training and insure that access for
          the installation is sufficient.

The Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test with the STS-34
flight crew is scheduled for Sept. 14 and 15.

                     STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Yesterday, Rocketdyne engineers installed the last main
engine, in the number two position, and are hooking up the
various connections today. Orbiter modifications and thermal
protection system operations are continuing. A brake anti-skid
test and a nose wheel steering test are planned today. The
landing gear functional test is scheduled Friday.

                       STS-32 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 2

Technicians have finished removing heatshields from around
the main engines in preparation for engine removal this weekend.
They will be taken to the VAB main engine shop for post-flight
inspections and for the replacement of several components. The
main landing gear flight tires have been removed and the nose
tires are scheduled for removal today. Operations continuing
today include leak and functional testing of the main propulsion
system, validation of the electrical system, sniff checks of
valves in the orbital maneuvering system and reaction control
system. The payload bay doors have been opened for post-flight
          deconfiguration.

STS-33 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB

Technicians are pinning the left forward segment to the
stack today. Plans are to stack the left forward assembly/nose
cone prior to the Labor Day holiday weekend. Next Tuesday,
workers would begin preparations to stack the right aft center
          segment.
