KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 6, 1989
STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - PAD 39-B
Today, the payload interface verification test is underway
to verify connections between the shuttle and the Galileo and its
Inertial Upper Stage.
Tomorrow, one of the seals for the right solid rocket booster
igniter will be inspected. The igniter seal on the left booster
will be inspected on Saturday. The pad will be cleared of all
non-essential personnel during the inspection which involves
disconnecting ordnance devices and and handling the igniter.
Friday, the payload end-to-end test is scheduled to verify
communications between the spacecraft and ground controllers.
The Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test with the STS-34
flight crew remains scheduled for Sept. 14 and 15.
STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
Yesterday, the left orbital maneuvering system pod was
transferred from the Hypergolic Maintenance Facility to the
Orbiter Processing Facility and is scheduled to be installed on
the vehicle today. The landing gear functional test was conducted
yesterday and post-test operations are underway. Orbiter systems
testing and thermal protection system operations are continuing.
STS-32 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 2
Removal of the forward reaction control system (FRCS) is
underway today. The FRCS will be transferred to the HMF where a
thruster that failed on orbit can be repaired. Validation of the
orbiter's electrical system and leak checks of the main propulsion
system helium system are continuing.
STS-33 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
Preparations to mate the right aft center segment to the
right stack are underway today while closeouts of the left
booster are continuing. The right forward center segment is
scheduled to be transferred to the VAB tomorrow for stacking.
