KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - TUESDAY, SEPT. 19, 1989
STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - PAD 39-B
Preparations are underway to button up the orbiter for
adverse weather or for a roll back to the Vehicle Assembly
Building. The payload bay doors are scheduled to be closed this
morning, platforms are being retracted and loose items are being
secured. Servicing and testing of the cooling system for
Galileo's radioisotope thermoelectric generators was completed
yesterday. Deservicing of that cooling system is scheduled today.
Earlier today, one of the two crawler transporters was moved
to the Pad B gate in the event a decision to roll back to the VAB
is made. That decision is expected tomorrow.
STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
Electrical redundancy testing of the orbital maneuvering
system and reaction control systems is scheduled this week.
Orbiter systems testing and thermal protection system operations
are continuing.
STS-32 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 2
Operations scheduled this week include functional checks of
the water spray boilers, leak and functional tests of the main
propulsion system and thermal protection system operations.
Preparations are underway to install the remote manipulator
system in a few weeks.
STS-33 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
The right forward assembly/nose cone was pinned to the right
forward segment early this morning. Technicians are closing out
the joints on the right and left boosters for flight. The
external tank is scheduled to be mated on Sept. 23.
STS-32 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
Early this morning the left aft booster was removed from
mobile launcher platform 3 in the Vehicle Assembly Building. This
action was taken due to the possiblity of Atlantis rolling back
to the VAB. MLP-3 may be moved to a parksite outside the VAB to
make room for Atlantis. A crawler transporter was moved outside
the VAB for the possible MLP-3 move. Transfer of the left aft
center segment to the VAB has been postponed.
