KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 20, 1989
STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - PAD 39-B
Yesterday, workers at Launch Pad 39-B made preparations to
roll the Space Shuttle Atlantis back to the Vehicle Assembly
Building. The payload bay doors were closed yesterday and loose
items around the pad were secured. The vehicle is currently in a
configuration that would support a first motion from the launch
pad within 16 hours of notification to roll. The vehicle will
remain in that configuration today while workers perform as much
launch processing work as possible.
Shuttle managers will continue keeping a close eye on
Hurricane Hugo today and assessing contingency plans here at
Kennedy Space Center.
STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
Electrical redundancy testing of the orbital maneuvering
system and reaction control systems were completed. Orbiter
systems testing and thermal protection system operations are
continuing.
STS-32 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 2
Operations scheduled this week include functional checks of
the water spray boilers, leak and functional tests of the main
propulsion system and thermal protection system operations.
Preparations are underway to install the remote manipulator
system in a few weeks.
STS-33 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
Technicians are closing out the joints on the right and left
boosters for flight. The external tank is scheduled to be mated
on Sept. 23.
STS-32 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
This morning, mobile launcher platform 3 was moved out of
the VAB and is being transferred to the park site to make room
for Atlantis if there is a decision to roll back. Yesterday, the
left aft booster was removed from mobile launcher platform 3 and
has since been transferred to the Rotation Processing and Storage
Facility.
