KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - FRIDAY, SEPT. 22, 1989

                       STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - PAD 39-B

The Rotating Service Structure (RSS) was moved into place
around the vehicle this morning. Last night, the orbiter access
arm and the external tank intertank access arm were positioned
next to the vehicle. Today, workers will continue making
connections between the launch pad and the orbiter and launch
          platform.

This weekend, the pad will be cleared of all non-essential
personnel while specially garbed technicians replace a quick
disconnect for auxiliary power unit number one. A leak was
discovered at the disconnect when hydrazine was being loaded
aboard the orbiter about two weeks ago. The disconnect is between
the fill line and the APU 1 fuel tank in the orbiter's aft
          compartment.

Early next week, the payload bay doors will be opened and a
partial interface verification test will be conducted to verify
those reconnections between the Galileo/Inertial Upper Stage and
the orbiter. In addition, the first part of ordnance operations
are planned and the power reactant storage and distribution
system dewars at the launch will be filled with liquid hydrogen
          and liquid oxgygen.

Launch date impacts due to preparations for Hurricane Hugo
          are currently being assessed.

                     STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

The main propulsion system is being tested today and
servicing of the water spray boilers is scheduled. Thermal
protection system operations are continuing. Preparations to
close out and clean the payload bay are underway. Redundancy tests
of the orbiter's systems are planned Saturday.

                       STS-32 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 2

The payload bay doors have been closed in preparation for
tile blanket operations and a functional check of the doors.
Operations scheduled this week include functional checks of the
water spray boilers, leak and functional tests of the main
propulsion system and thermal protection system operations.

STS-33 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB

Technicians are closing out the joints on the right and left
boosters for flight. Preparations to mate the external tank are
          scheduled for early next week.

STS-32 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB

Mobile launcher platform 3 was transferred back inside the
VAB yesterday and the left aft booster was transferred to the VAB
early this morning. The segment will be lifted this afternoon for
stacking on the platform. The left aft center segment is
scheduled for stacking the end of next week.
