KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - THURSDAY, SEPT. 28, 1989

                       STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - PAD 39-B

The orbiter's hydraulic system is being prepared for the
main engine flight readiness test today. This test is designed to
verify the operation of engine actuators and valves as they
perform in flight. Tomorrow, technicians are scheduled to install
the two extravehicular activity space suits in the orbiter's
airlock. This weekend, the orbiter's reaction control system
regulators will be tested and the propellant tanks for the
orbital maneuvering system and reaction control system will be
          pressurized for flight.

A thermal conditioning test is being conducted on the
Galileo spacecraft. Tomorrow, flight batteries are scheduled to
be installed in the Inertial Upper Stage.

Launch remains targeted for Oct. 12 at 1:29 p.m. Eastern
Time. The official launch date will be set at the conclusion of
the Flight Readiness Review scheduled for Oct. 2-3 here at KSC.

                     STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Yesterday, the payload bay doors were closed in preparation
for the transfer to the Vehicle Assembly Building. A final cycle
and positioning of the aerosurfaces has been performed. The body
flap, rudder speed brake and engine nozzles have been positioned
for the rollover. A functional test of the landing gear was
completed. A flight pressurization test of the main propulsion
system helium system is scheduled today. Shuttle officials will
meet today for a routine rollover review.

                       STS-32 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 2

Power up testing is continuing today with no problems.
Vehicle inspections for water intrusion are continuing today. A
functional test of the vent doors was successful conducted yesterday.
Leak and functional checks of the water spray boilers are scheduled
today. Thermal protection system operations are underway. These
include post-flight repairs and assessments of interior thermal
          control blankets.

STS-33 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB

The external tank and solid rocket boosters were mated
yesterday and connections are underway. Preparations to mate the
orbiter Discovery to the stack will begin next week.

STS-32 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB

The left aft center segment was transferred to the VAB
yesterday and inspections of the tang are underway for the mate
          tomorrow.
