Shuttle managers today deferred a decision on a launch date
for STS-34 pending resolution of an anomaly involving one of the
two Inertial Upper Stage (IUS) computers aboard Atlantis. Ear-
lier today one of the computers experienced bit errors and
analysis is underway to determine the proper course of action.
It is projected that a launch date determination can be made by
the close of business on Thursday, Oct. 5, or possibly sooner.
