KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - THURSDAY, NOV. 16, 1989
STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - PAD 39-B
Inspections of Discovery's two aft integrated electronics
assemblies (IEAs) have been performed. The right IEA did not pass
the inspections and will be replaced with a unit from the STS-32
booster stack. As a result of a new IEA, the right solid rocket
booster hydraulic power units will be hot fired. These hydraulic
power units will be run for 20-30 seconds late tomorrow afternoon
and a series of inspections will follow.
Workers retorqued a leaking dynatube fitting for one of the
hydraulic power units on the right solid rocket booster
yesterday. The fitting is being monitored today for any
significant leakage.
Launch of mission STS-33 is targeted for no earlier than
Wednesday, Nov. 22. The four-hour launch period opens at 6:30
p.m. EST.
STS-36 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 1
Deservicing of residual hypergolic propellants began this
morning. Checks of the main propulsion system and communications
system are scheduled this week. Preparations are underway to
remove the right orbital maneuvering system pod this weekend.
STS-32 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 2
Closeouts of the vehicle for the move to the Vehicle
Assembly Building are underway. The landing gears are being
prepared for final retraction. The orbiter's weight and center of
gravity have been determined. Transfer of Columbia from the OPF
to the Vehicle Assembly Building is targeted 8 to 9 p.m. tonight.
STS-32 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS/EXTERNAL TANK - VAB
Another IEA will be used on the right booster. Both IEAs are
scheduled to be installed while the vehicle is in the VAB.
Preparations are underway for mating the orbiter to the external
tank.
STS-36 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
The left forward center segment is scheduled to be moved
back to the VAB early Friday. The right aft booster is being
built up in the Rotation Processing and Surge Facility.
