KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - THURSDAY, NOV. 30, 1989
STS- 32 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - PAD 39-A
The Countdown Demonstration Test began on time this morning
at 8 a.m. at the T minus 24 hour mark leading up to a simulated
ignition of the main engines at 11 a.m. Friday. The STS-32 flight
crew members are scheduled to receive the routine status
briefings from shuttle and payload engineers today.
Tomorrow will be a dress rehearsal of the actual launch day
for the STS-32 flight crew. The crew's schedule for the test is:
wake up at 6:05 a.m. EST, breakfast at 6:35 a.m., a weather
briefing at 7:05 a.m., don flight clothing at 7:05 a.m. and
depart for Pad 39-A at 7:45 a.m. The crew will board the orbiter
and simulate configuring the orbiter for launch.
Yesterday, the payload bay doors were opened. Installation
of the Syncom satellite into Columbia's payload bay is scheduled
for Friday afternoon.
STS-36 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 1
Operations scheduled this week include leak and functional
checks of the auxiliary power units and waste containment system.
Orbiter hydraulic operations are continuing today. Checks of the
nose wheel steering system and a brake anti-skid test have been
completed. Checks of the aerosurfaces are underway today.
STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - DRYDEN
Turnaround operations are ongoing to prepare Discovery for
the return trip back to KSC this weekend. Preparations are
underway to drain hypergolic propellants from the orbital
maneuvering system ball valve cavities and installation of ferry
flight fittings is continuing. The ferry flight is scheduled to
begin Saturday with an overnight and refueling stopover planned
at Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The 747 and orbiter
are scheduled to arrive at KSC on Sunday.
STS-36 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
The right aft booster is being stacked on mobile launcher
platform 1 in the Vehicle Assembly Building high bay 3. The left
forward segment was transferred to the VAB last night and
preparations to stack are in work.
