KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - TUESDAY, JAN. 16, 1990

                       STS-36 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 1

A positive pressure structural leak test is underway and ex-
pected to be complete today. Today, the orbiter will be jacked
down and its weight and center of gravity will be determined.

Orbiter hydraulic system operations are planned today for
          final landing gear retraction.

Rollover to the Vehicle Assembly Building is targeted 8 a.m.
Thursday, Jan. 18. Atlantis will be mounted on the orbiter
transporter and towed to the VAB transfer aisle. In the VAB,
overhead cranes will be hooked to the orbiter to hoist it off the
transporter and into position near the external tank.

                       STS-31 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 2

Activities planned this week include tests of the power
reactant storage and distribution system, checks of the orbital
maneuvering system and reaction control system, checks of the
water spray boilers, and a brake anti-skid test.

This week, workers will install several major vehicle com-
ponents. The nose landing gear wheels and tires have been in-
stalled. The left hand wheels have been installed and installa-
tion of the right hand wheels is underway today. Preparations are
underway to install the robot arm in the payload bay this week.
Installation of the three main engines is planned for Friday and
          Saturday.

STS-31 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB

The right aft booster was stacked on the mobile launcher
platform this weekend. The right aft center segment is in the
transfer aisle and will be lifted later this afternoon for
mating with the right aft booster.
