KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - WEDNESDAY, JAN. 17, 1990
STS-36 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 1
Atlantis' weight and center of gravity have been determined
and the orbiter transporter is in position under the vehicle.
Today, the vehicle will be lined up and bolted to the
transporter.
Rollover to the Vehicle Assembly Building is targeted for 4
a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18. In the VAB, overhead cranes will be
hooked to the orbiter to hoist it off the transporter and into
position near the external tank. The vehicle will remain in the
VAB for about a week. Rollout to Launch Pad 39-A is targeted for
Jan. 24 with first motion at 8 a.m. EST.
STS-31 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 2
Activities planned this week include tests of the power
reactant storage and distribution system, checks of the orbital
maneuvering system and reaction control system, checks of the
water spray boilers, and a brake anti-skid test.
This week, workers will install several major vehicle com-
ponents. The nose and main landing gear wheels and tires have
been installed for flight. Preparations are underway to install
the robot arm in the payload bay this week. Installation of the
three main engines is planned for Friday and Saturday.
STS-31 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
The right aft center segment is in position for mate to the
stack. Technicians are performing joint leak checks and closing
out the left solid rocket booster for flight.
