In response to a question about how the shuttle was to have been stacked at VAFB: my impression was that it would have been stacked on the pad (inside the "in-and-out service structure" [not the official name]). FYI, Titan IVs at VAFB are also stacked directly on the launch pad. --Glenn Serre serre@tramp.colorado.edu
