KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - FRIDAY, FEB. 2, 1990

                    STS-36 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - LAUNCH PAD 39-A

This morning, the countdown demonstration test began at 8:30
a.m. at the T minus 24 hour mark. The STS-36 flight crew arrived
at KSC yesterday and will receive a status briefing on launch
preparations here at KSC. In addition, the crew will be trained
in emergency egress procedures at the launch pad today.

Tomorrow morning, the flight crew will be awakened at about
6 a.m. to practice the final hours of the countdown. The
countdown test is an overall dress rehearsal for launch day for
the flight crew and launch controllers. The test will end with a
simulated engine cutoff at the T-5 second mark shortly after 11
          a.m. EST tomorrow.

Rocketdyne technicians are in the process of removing the
high pressure fuel turbo pump on main engine number 3 today. In-
stallation of the replacement pump is scheduled over the weekend
and the associated leak checks and securing will continue through
next week in parallel with other planned work.

                       STS-32 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 1

The orbiter's elevons and body flap will be repositioned for
removal of the number 2 main engine. Managers are considering
using the high pressure fuel turbo pump on engine 2 for Atlantis'
next flight. Post-flight orbiter systems tests are also under-
way. Other activities planned today include a test of the radar
altimeter, a functional test of the air data probe and prepara-
tions to remove the robot arm this weekend.

                       STS-31 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 2

Operations planned today include a test of the remote
manipulator system, installation of heat shields around the main
engines, and preparations to test orbiter to payload interfaces
          this weekend.

                       STS-31 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF

Processing activities are running ahead of schedule for the
replacement of the right aft booster for Mission STS-31. The seg-
ment is now scheduled to be ready for stacking on the launch
platform early next week. Meanwhile, closeouts of the left
booster are underway in the VAB.
