I was not sure what to expect from this film -- or even if I was going to watch it at all. As with many of you, my interest in shuttle activities is more than passing. And so the events during and after the flight affected me more emotionally than maybe most people who said, "Yeah, that was the one with the teacher on it, wasn't it." As far as the film goes, I kept thinking that this was a dramatization, and except for facts which we all know from the reports and press, there was really no way of knowing the intimate details of the astronauts or their families. So the film didn't show a lot of the details of their families. I read a book (called "I touched the sky"?) which was published the year after the accident and concentrated on Christa's experience. I saw nothing in the film that I hadn't already read in that book. Did I like the film? Well, I certainly liked the NASA shots -- the lifting of the orbiter from horizontal to vertical in the VAB was impressive. They played up on the lives of the people much more than the scientific aspects of it. Some parts of some of the astronauts' lives were played a little negatively, so I can see how some of the families wouldn't like to have a film made of them -- I wouldn't either. But at least as far as I could tell, they didn't stretch credibility of the facts. What I thought was at least as interesting was that this was shown the same evening as the actual events are/were taking place in FL for the next Shuttle mission. There are more than one resemblance of this mission to the Challenger mission -- although I hope that things aren't the same as they were. I was all ready to see that classic shot of the shuttle exploding, but it never came. I think I liked it that way better. - tom -- internet : mvac23!thomas@udel.edu or thomas%mvac23@udel.edu uucp : {ucbvax,mcvax,psuvax1,uunet}!udel!mvac23!thomas Europe Bitnet: THOMAS1@GRATHUN1 Location: Newark, DE, USA Quote : Virtual Address eXtension.
