KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14, 1990 - 11:30 a.m.
STS-31 - DISCOVERY (OV-103) - VAB HIGH BAY 1
All operations are on schedule to roll Discovery out to
Launch Pad 39-B tomorrow. First motion is expected at 7:30 a.m.
EST. Platforms around the vehicle will be retracted today in
preparation for the roll. The shuttle interface test has been
successfully completed which verified all critical connections
between the orbiter, boosters, tank and launch platform.
Once at the pad, launch team members will begin hooking up
launch pad support equipment to the vehicle and launch platform.
The Hubble Space Telescope is scheduled to be transferred to the
Pad on Monday. The Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test is
scheduled to begin Wednesday and will culminate with a simulated
engine cutoff at 11 a.m. EST Thursday, March 22.
STS-35 - COLUMBIA (OV-102) - OPF BAY 1
Operations today include installation of the space shuttle
main engines. Engine 1 has been installed, engine 2 is being in-
stalled today and engine three will follow.
Work is also on schedule to install the Astro payload into
the payload bay this weekend. Closeouts of the the payload bay
and checks of payload wiring in the orbiter are underway today.
STS-36 - ATLANTIS (OV-104) - OPF BAY 2
Atlantis arrived at KSC atop the 747 Shuttle Carrier
Aircraft at about 5:51 p.m. yesterday after making a refueling
stop at Columbus Air Force Base, Columbus, Miss. Atlantis was
demated from the 747 overnight and towed to the processing
facility at about 10:45 a.m. today. Workers will configure plat-
forms in the bay to gain access to the vehicle and will begin
post-flight inspections and testing.
STS-35 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB HIGH BAY 3
A leak check of the field joint between the right forward
center segment and right forward segment is being conducted
today. The boosters are stacked on mobile launcher platform 3.
The external tank is scheduled to be mated next week.
