[sci.space.shuttle] shuttle landings

i've never been up to a shuttle landing before and thought i'd ask:

1]  can Edwards be gotten on to [if that's possible under non-landing 
    conditions]?

2]  are there other better spots to see the landing other than where i'm
    assuming they herd together the people who attend?

3]  for a 1624 pdt landing, how early would it be advisable to show up
    [accounting for June 8th putting the landing on a Friday, too]?
