KSC Space Shuttle Processing Status Report

          -----------------------------------------------------------------

                 STS-38 -- Atlantis (OV 104) - Launch Pad 39-A

The liquid hydrogen special tanking test remains on schedule
for 7 a.m. tomorrow. Call-to-stations in preparation for the test
was issued at 7:00 a.m. this morning. Today, orbiter aft
compartment closeout is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., and the rotating
service structure is set to be moved to the park position away
from the vehicle at 10:00 p.m. The helium purge configuration on
the external tank and the liquid hydrogen feed lines in the
          orbiter has been completed.

During tomorrow's tanking test, super-cold liquid hydrogen
will be flowed through the orbiter's aft compartment into the
external tank via the 17-inch umbilical disconnect assembly.

STS-38 is a Department of Defense dedicated mission.

                     STS-35 -- Columbia (OV 102) - OPF Bay 2

Work continues on installation of the 17-inch liquid
hydrogen disconnect. Tightening of the B-nuts on the disconnect
and aft compartment closeouts are in work today. The BBXRT
payload was serviced yesterday. Mission managers will hold an
orbiter rollout review at KSC today to discuss Columbia's status
          for the STS-35/ASTRO-1 mission.

                     STS-41 -- Discovery (OV 103) - OPF Bay 1

Discovery's forward reaction control system was moved to the
Orbiter Processing Facility's transfer aisle last night and
operations are underway for its installation on the orbiter later
tonight. The left OMS pod will be electrically disconnected today
to allow workers to repair a thermal barrier. Also, work on the
right hand main landing gear is continuing.

Discovery's next mission is Ulysses. Launch of STS-41 is
scheduled for October 5, 1990, from pad 39-B.
