KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING STATUS REPORT
Monday, August 6 10:30 a.m. EDT
STS-35 -- Columbia (OV-102) -- VAB High Bay 2
Operations to mate Columbia with the external tank are
still underway. At present, the Call to Stations for the Shuttle
Interface Test, which checks out electrical and mechanical con-
nections between the orbiter and the tank, is targeted for mid to
late first shift on Tuesday. Rollout to Launch Pad 39A will move
to Friday, with exact time to be determined. Managers are cur-
rently assessing the practability of moving some portions of a
series of routine interface testing to the pad.
Over the weekend, engineers resolved a problem with the in-
stallation of an electrical monoball assembly. That assembly is
currently being installed. Other engineering evaluation included
the assessment of work items such as a too-short "power" bolt.
The launch of STS-35 and the Astro-1 observatory is still
scheduled for early September. The next payload operations, in-
cluding servicing of the Broad Band X-Ray Telescope, have moved
to Saturday. The BBXRT frozen argon servicing performed prior to
rollover from the OPF will provide cooling through Aug. 13.
STS-41 -- Discovery (OV-103) -- OPF Bay 1
Technicians have completed cabin leak checks. Installation
of an auxiliary power unit began this weekend. Later this week,
fuel line connections and leak checks will be performed as part
of this operations.
Radiator work on the forward right-hand aft door is
scheduled to begin tomorrow morning. The orbiter purge, vent, and
drain door functional test has been completed. Water spray boiler
servicing is scheduled. OMS/RCS aft pod mating and testing con-
tinues. Scheduled portions of ordnance installation have been
completed.
STS-38 -- Atlantis (OV-104) -- Launch Pad 39A
Based on Columbia's projected Friday rollout, Atlantis'
rollback to the VAB will be rescheduled for 12:01 a.m. Thursday,
August 9. Atlantis will be moved to outside High Bay 1, until
Columbia is rolled out the next day. Then, Atlantis will be moved
into the VAB, destacked, and returned to the OPF.
At the pad, vehicle power is scheduled to come up on second
shift. Payload bay door operations are in work, with the doors
scheduled to close later today.
