                     KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING STATUS REPORT

          Tuesday, August 7                                 10:00 a.m. EDT

                   STS-35  --  Columbia (OV-102) -- VAB High Bay 2

               Rollout of the Space Shuttle Columbia is  currently  planned
          for  shortly after midnight Friday,  August 10.  Orbiter/external
          tank oxygen and hydrogen  monoball  installation  and  electrical
          mates are complete.
               Call to stations for the Shuttle Interface Test is scheduled
          for noon today.  Rollout preparations are scheduled to pick up on
          second shift Wednesday.
               Installation of insulation around the  liquid  hydrogen  and
          liquid oxygen lines is in work.   Umbilical foam closeouts should
          be completed by second shift Wednesday.
                The launch of STS-35 and the Astro-1 observatory  is  still
          scheduled  for  early  September.  The Broad Band X-Ray Telescope
          liquid argon servicing has moved to Saturday.  The  BBXRT  frozen
          argon  servicing  performed  prior  to rollover from the OPF will
          provide cooling through Aug. 13.
               A press briefing to  discuss  preparations  for  the  STS-35
          launch  and  the  status  of  the  Space Shuttle program has been
          scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today on NASA Select.

                        STS-41 -- Discovery (OV-103) -- OPF Bay 1

               Vehicle power is up.  OMS/RCS pod mating is complete and in-
          terface verification tests are in work. Inspection work continues
          on  the  right-hand forward radiator/payload bay doors.  Blankets
          have been removed, and Rockwell technicians are scheduled to con-
          duct a tile inspection today.
               Auxiliary power unit  installation  work  delayed  over  the
          weekend    is   now   scheduled   to   be   completed   overnight
          Wednesday/Thursday. Midbody closeouts continue.


                      STS-38 --  Atlantis (OV-104) -- Launch Pad 39A

               Payload bay operations are in work with blanket installation
          and liners operations underway.  The  payload  bay  doors  should
          close about mid-day today.
               Foam dissection is winding up. Flange mass spectrometer work
          is scheduled for first shift today, with strain gage installation
          to begin on second shift.
               Based  on  Columbia's  projected  Friday rollout,  Atlantis'
          rollback to the VAB will be rescheduled for 12:01 a.m.  Thursday,
          August 9.
