KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - TUESDAY, AUGUST 28 1990 11 A.M. STS-35 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - PAD 39-A Ordnance devices were installed on the vehicle and circuit resistance checks of pyrotechnic devices were conducted. Closeouts of the ordnance work is underway. Pressurization of the onboard hypergolic propellant tanks was also completed. The pad was reopened last night and technicians gained access to the aft compartment about 6 p.m. Closeouts of the aft compartment are un- derway. The flight doors are scheduled to be installed on the aft late tomorrow afternoon. A routine purge of the cavity between the orbiter and exter- nal tank liquid hydrogen 17-inch umbilical is scheduled today. Preparations are underway to service the Broad Band X-Ray Telescope this evening. This will be the last servicing prior to launch. Columbia and the Astro-1 payload are scheduled for launch on Sept. 1. The launch countdown is scheduled to begin at 1 a.m. EDT Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the T minus 43 hour mark, leading up to the planned liftoff at 1:17 a.m. EDT on Saturday, Sept. 1. The flight crew is scheduled to arrive at KSC tomorrow at 9:30 p.m. EDT. An evaluation of the countdown and launch schedule will be made this afternoon to determine the progress of Discovery's VAB processing and targeted pad rollout time. STS-41 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1 Discovery was softmated to the external tank at 3:54 a.m. today. Hard mate is targeted for this morning. Electrical connec- tions will commence today. Power up testing is planned on Thursday. Some of the testing of those connections will be con- ducted after the vehicle arrives at Launch Pad 39-B. The schedules for Discovery and Columbia are being evaluated, however, Discovery's rollout to the Launch Pad is tar- geted for Friday midnight. STS-38 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2 Preparations are underway to repair the freon cooling sys- tem. Checks of several leaking reaction control system thrusters are continuing. Leak checks of the main propulsion system shaft seals have been completed.
