          STS-35 LAUNCH ADVISORY

Following initial trouble shooting of the telemetry failure
with the Broad Band X-Ray Telescope (BBXRT), NASA managers have
determined that the launch of STS-35 will be delayed several days
to allow the launch team time to resolve the problem. The team
is looking at both modification and replacement options to the
          avionics unit on BBXRT.

Details of the repairs being undertaken will be outlined in
a press conference Friday, August 31, 1990 at the Kennedy Space
Center Launch Complex 39 press site auditorium. Participants for
the briefing will be Dr. Wiiliam Lenoir, Associate Administrator
for Space Flight, Robert Crippen, Space Shuttle Director, Dr.
Lennard Fisk, Associate Administrator for Space Science and Ap-
plications, and Robert Sieck, Kennedy Space Center Launch Direc-
tor. The briefing will begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT and will be
          carried on NASA Select TV.
