KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - MONDAY, SEPT. 10, 1990 10:30 AM
STS-35 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - PAD 39-A
The new hydrogen recirculation pump package is being in-
stalled today and leak checks are planned this afternoon. Late
tonight, engineers will conduct a helium signature leak test of
the liquid hydrogen side of the main propulsion system and main
engines. Following the test, technicians will refoam the pump
and connecting joints.
No leaks were detected during tests of the pump package this
weekend. The package was removed Sunday and flown to the Johnson
Space Center for analysis.
Launch of STS-35 is dependent on the successful replacement
and retest of the recirculation pump package. A tentative time
frame for launch is the week of Sept. 17.
STS-41 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - PAD 39-B
Results from a pressurization test of the freon system are
being analyzed. This test is designed to verify structural in-
tegrity of the system. A leak was detected in the system after
the vehicle was in the vertical positon.
A helium signature leak test of the three main engines and
main propulsion system was successfully completed overnight.
The Ulysses payload was installed in the payload bay Satur-
day. The interface verification test is planned Wednesday and
Thursday and the end-to-end test is set for Friday.
The Countdown Demonstration Test began on time today at 8
a.m. at the T-24 hour mark. All countdown events will be simu-
lated or abbreviated leading up to a main engine cutoff at about
11 a.m. tomorrow.
The STS-41 flight crew arrived at KSC yesterday for emer-
gency training and to participate in the routine test.
STS-38 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2
Operations to remove and replace the flash evaporator are
continuing. The unit is scheduled to be removed and replaced
today.
Tile repairs are continuing and thermal control blankets are
being installed on the forward bulkhead.
Atlantis is being prepared for rollover to the VAB the end
of the month.
