Pad - A was under refubishment during the down time after Challenger to bring
it up to a Pad - B configuration, for example the weather protection
installation for the Orbiter. It was therefore not used for several flights
after "Return to flight". Several DOD missions were scheduled for launch, and
were indeed launched from Pad - B, example STS - 33 R , Discovery, ET 038, SRB
B1-032, SSME's 2031, 2022 & 2028. This was around the November 22 1989 time
frame.
