                KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - WEDNESDAY, JAN. 23, 1991

                     STS-39/DoD - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
                            LAUNCH - FEBRUARY/MARCH 1991

          WORK IN PROGRESS:
          - Tests of orbital maneuvering system crossfeed lines.
          - Fitting the thermal barrier between the external tank doors.
          - Potable water servicing.
          - Flush of the auxiliary power units lube oil system.

          WORK COMPLETED:
          - Auxiliary power unit leak and functional tests.

          WORK SCHEDULED:

          - Structural leak checks of the orbiter this weekend.
          - Final payload bay door closure this weekend.
          - Closeouts to prepare  for  rollover  to  the  Vehicle  Assembly
          Building the end of the month.

            STS-37/GAMMA RAY OBSERVATORY - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2
                                 LAUNCH - APRIL 1991

          WORK IN PROGRESS:
          - Potable water servicing.
          - Functional test of the waste containment system.
          - Ku-band antenna testing.
          - Installation of windows 1 and 6.
          - Nose cap closeout photographs.
          - Hot oil flush of auxiliary power unit no. 1.
          - Installing ordnance for the remote manipulator system.
          - Main engine securing operations.

          WORK COMPLETED:
          - Installation and stowage of the remote manipulator system.

          WORK SCHEDULED:
          - Installation of the nose cap on Thursday.
          - Main engine flight readiness test this weekend.

           STS-40/SPACELAB LIFE SCIENCES 1 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - VAB HB 2
                                    LAUNCH - MAY

          WORK IN PROGRESS:
          - Post flight inspections of the space shuttle main engines.
          - Troubleshooting of the S-band phase modulation antenna.
          - Cycles of the landing gear doors to accommodate thermal protec-
          tion system operations.


                          STS-40 - COLUMBIA status (cont'd)

          WORK COMPLETED:
          - Cycles of the main and nose landing gears.
          - Troubleshooting of the S-band phase modulation antenna.

          WORK SCHEDULED:
          -  Removal  of the environmental control life support system dump
          nozzle.



                  STS-39 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS/EXTERNAL TANK - VAB

          WORK IN PROGRESS:
          - Transfer of the right forward segment to the  Vehicle  Assembly
          Building.
          - Preparations for mating the right forward segment.
          - Closeouts of all booster field joints.

          WORK COMPLETED:
          - Right forward center stacked and mated.

          WORK SCHEDULED:
          - Mate of the right forward assembly to the booster next week.
