KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - MONDAY, JAN. 28, 1991
STS-39/DoD - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
LAUNCH - FEBRUARY/MARCH 1991
WORK IN PROGRESS:
- Assessment of tests of two orbital maneuvering system thrusters
and inspections of the nozzle to body welds on a third thruster.
- Checks of the flipper doors and elevons.
- Cleaning of the payload bay.
- Closeouts of the aft compartment.
WORK COMPLETED:
- Leak tests of two orbital maneuvering system thrusters and weld
checks of a third thruster.
- Connections of ordnance devices for the remote manipulator sys-
tem.
- Auxiliary power unit lube oil flush.
WORK SCHEDULED:
- Structural leak checks of the orbiter in the next few days.
- Final payload bay door closure as early as tonight.
- Closeouts to prepare for rollover to the Vehicle Assembly
Building the end of the month.
CONCERNS:
- Thruster leak rate and nozzle to body welds of another
thruster. Possible replacement of thrusters.
STS-37/GAMMA RAY OBSERVATORY - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2
LAUNCH - APRIL 1991
WORK IN PROGRESS:
- Main engine flight readiness test.
- Water spray boiler leak and functional tests.
- Hot lube oil flush of auxiliary power unit no. 2.
- Preparations to install the forward reaction control system.
- Flutter buffet instrumentation installation.
- Potable water servicing.
- Functional test of the waste containment system.
- Ku-band antenna testing.
WORK COMPLETED:
- Brazing check valve 3 in the main propulsion system.
- Hot lube oil flush of auxiliary power unit 1 complete.
- Controller checks of APUs 1 and 2.
WORK SCHEDULED:
- Installation of the forward reaction control system this week.
- Installation of windows 1 and 6 this week.
STS-40/SPACELAB LIFE SCIENCES 1 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - VAB HB 2
LAUNCH - MAY
WORK IN PROGRESS:
- Replacement of an instrumentation cable in avionics bay 1.
- Wing strut mold impressions.
WORK SCHEDULED:
- Closeouts to ready the vehicle for transfer to the Orbiter
Processing Facility following Discovery's move to the VAB.
STS-37 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS/EXTERNAL TANK - VAB
WORK IN PROGRESS:
- Stacking the right forward assembly to the booster.
- Closeouts of all booster field joints.
WORK SCHEDULED:
- Alignment of the boosters.
- Mate of the external tank to the boosters as early as this
weekend.
WORK COMPLETED:
- Connecting the right forward segment to the stack.
