I'm in the middle of Walter Schirra's autobiography and noted that when the Mercury program started up he was a pack a day smoker. In all, 6 out of the origninal 7 astro- nauts were smokers. The Japanesse reporter who went to the Mir space station was a chain smoker - three packs a day! Does anyone know if any current U.S. astronauts are smokers, or does NASA not accept these types? Just curious. Rory McLeod Dept Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering University of Virginia
