          KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - MONDAY, APR. 1, 1991 - 10  a.m.


             STS-37/GAMMA RAY OBSERVATORY - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - PAD 39-B
                                  LAUNCH - APRIL 5


          WORK IN PROGRESS:
          - Launch countdown preparations.
          - Closeouts of the Gamma Ray Observatory.
          - Closing of the payload bay doors tonight for flight.
          - Hypergolic system closeouts.

          WORK COMPLETED:
          - Pressurization of the hypergolic propellant system tanks.
          - Gamma Ray Observatory battery conditioning.
          - Purges of the external tank.
          - Closeouts of the aft  compartment.  Doors  were  installed  for
          flight this morning.

          WORK SCHEDULED:
          - Launch countdown begins at 5:30 a.m. EST, April 2.
          - Flight crew arrives at 3:30 p.m. EST, April 2.
          - Launch April 5 at 9:18 a.m. EST.
          -  Weather  outlook:  50  percent  chance  of being within commit
          criteria on Friday. Conditions improve Saturday to 80 percent.

                        STS-39/DoD - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - PAD A
                                 LAUNCH - LATE APRIL

          WORK IN PROGRESS:
          - Hooking up ground systems to the vehicle.
          - Rotating Service Structure moves around the vehicle at 1 p.m.

          WORK COMPLETED:
          - Rolled out to Launch Pad 39-A today. Left VAB at 3:16 a.m.  and
          was harddown on the pad's pedestals at about 9 a.m.
          -  Shuttle  Interface  Test to verify connections between the or-
          biter and launch platform and between the vehicle elements.

          WORK SCHEDULED:
          - Verification of connections between the launch pad and  vehicle
          tomorrow.
          -  Installation  of the STS-39 payloads into the payload bay Wed-
          nesday.



           STS-40/SPACELAB LIFE SCIENCES 1 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 1
                                    LAUNCH - MAY

          WORK IN PROGRESS:
          - Installation of the Spacelab Life Sciences tunnel extension.
          - Main propulsion system and main engine interface checks.
          - Main engine regulator flow checks.
          - Installation of the external tank door bellcrank housings.

          WORK COMPLETED:
          - Interface verification tests between the Spacelab Life Sciences
          payload and the orbiter on Saturday.


                         STS-40 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB

          WORK IN PROGRESS:
          - Stacking the left forward center segment on the left booster.

          WORK COMPLETED:
          - Stacking the right aft booster on the mobile launcher platform.
          - Transfer of the left forward center segment to the VAB  earlier
          this morning.
