[sci.space.shuttle] STS-39 Viewing

M.W.Hey@newcastle.ac.uk (William Hey) (04/29/91)

Greetings,

Does anyone know (roughly) the magnitude of an orbiting shuttle,
as viewed from the ground?

Are there any approximate rules of thumb for estimating magnitudes
of orbital bodies?

Will the free-flying cargo of STS-39 be visible to the naked-eye
(assuming ideal conditions) or binoculars?

- I can't answer the questions for myself yet, as I don't have the
  latest STS-39 orbital elements.

Cheers,

Bill
