KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - FRIDAY, MAY 10, 1991 - 10:30 AM STS-40/SPACELAB LIFE SCIENCES 1 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - PAD 39-B LAUNCH - MAY WORK IN PROGRESS: - Post operations associated with loading hypergolic propellants into the orbiter's orbital maneuvering system and reaction con- trol system storage tanks. - Preparations to install ordnance devices on the vehicle and check firing circuits. WORK SCHEDULED: - Training exercises to load experiment packages into the Spacelab late in the launch countdown. - Installation of ordnance devices this weekend. - Flight Readiness Review planned May 13-14. - Installation of the two spacesuits for contigency purposes early next week. WORK COMPLETED: - Hypergolic propellant loading operations. Auxiliary power units and solid rocket booster hydraulic power units were serviced with hydrazine as part of this operation. STS-43/TDRS - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2 WORK IN PROGRESS: - Preparations to replace a thruster on the right orbital maneuvering system (OMS) pod. - Auxiliary power unit (APU) leak and functional tests. - Power reactant storage and distribution system testing. - Checks of the main propulsion system helium system. - Thermal protection system operations. - Preparations to remove the forward reaction control system for replacement of two oxidizer thrusters. WORK SCHEDULED: - OMS thruster replacement this weekend. The bay will be cleared for this job. - Removal of the forward reaction control system next week. - APU lube oil service next week. - Functional tests of the orbital maneuvering system pods. STS-48/UARS - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1 WORK IN PROGRESS: - Opening of the payload bay doors. - Post flight inspections. - Thermal protection system operations. WORK COMPLETED: - Offloaded residual propellant from the fuel cell storage tanks. - Installed access platforms in the aft compartment. - Main engine drying operations. - Removal of all tires. They will be sent to the vendor for evaluation. WORK SCHEDULED: - Main propulsion system tests next week. STS- 49 - ENDEAVOUR (OV 105) - VAB High Bay 2 Endeavour was transferred to the Vehicle Assembly Building high bay 2 this morning where work will be performed for the next few weeks. The orbiter will be jacked and leveled and access will be established. Next week, the orbiter's weight and center of gravity will be determined. Tail cone removal operations are planned the end of next week.
