Is it true that a 'relay' of the Shuttle Audio will be rerouted to JPL in the
city of Pasadena California, and from there put out on the air on a Ham Radio
Repeater (I believe that repeater is at JPL).

I thank you for any information you can get me regarding this...

Thank you,

JPL and GSFC usually retransmit the shuttle audio during flights. I don't
know if they always do it on every flight, but I think so.

The following stations usually retransmit on these frequencies (in Mhz):

Station VHF 10m 15m 20m 40m 80m
------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ----- -----
WA3NAN 147.46 28.650 21.395 14.295 7.185 3.860
W6VIO 224.04 21.280 14.282 7.165 3.840
W6FXN 145.46
K6MF 145.58 7.165 3.840

(using FM on VHF, USB on 10-20m, LSB on 40-80m)

WA3NAN - Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), Greenbelt, Maryland.
W6VIO - Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Pasadena, California.
W6FXN - Los Angeles
K6MF - San Francisco

^^^^^^x---- Um, close... it's now on 145.585, to better match the
2-meter band plan in the S.F. Bay Area. You would have
heard it on 145.58, but the signal wouldn't have been
*nearly* as good as on 145.585!

>(using FM on VHF, USB on 10-20m, LSB on 40-80m)
Another note, the VHF systems are usually continuous-carrier (you'll
have a signal even when nobody is talking), but the HF systems are
"usually" run in Voice-Operated (VOX) mode (which means if there isn't
any audio activity on NASA Select, you'll just have to keep listening
to the static, and look for it...8-)

A final note, The AMES Amateur Radio Club (K6MF, or Kilo-Six-Moffet
Field) I.D.'er is also soliciting signal reports and postcards from listeners.
[I also believe the group is responsible for the NASA Select retransmission
that shows up on the 2.4 GHz ATV repeater on Black Mountain, up behind
Stanford University, for which I (among others) are very greatful! -D-]

What actually is the sending power of these stations?

Are they likely to be received in europe?
