Is it possible to see anything of a shuttle launch from Orlando. I will be there next week and would love to see the launch. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get near KSC for a good look. Rich Friedman@mbcl.rutgers.edu

Last fall I was in the Orlando area during the launch of the Ulysses S/C by Discovery. Since I also had no possibility to watch the launch from KSC, I watched the launch activities on TV. Shortly before the liftoff I left my appartment and could see in east direction something burning in the sky followed by a smoky track. Nevertheless the shape of the Shuttle was unseen. I will be The flame and contrail are clearly visible, just look due east at launch time, you can't miss it. The launch vehicle is practically invisible however (it IS 50 miles away). It's been pretty cloudy around here recently. YMMV.
