KSC SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT - TUESDAY, MAY 28, 1991 - 10 AM STS-40/SPACELAB LIFE SCIENCES 1 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - PAD 39-B LAUNCH - JUNE 1 WORK IN PROGRESS: - Preparations to begin the launch countdown at 9 p.m. EDT tonight at the T-43 hour mark. - Closeouts of the aft compartment. - Removing protective covers from components in the aft. - Final inspections of the aft compartment. - Closeouts of the solid rocket boosters. WORK COMPLETED: - Retest of the new multiplexer demultiplexer (MDM). - Replacement of the six cryogenic propellant temperature transducers and three plugs in the liquid hydrogen 12-inch feed- lines. - Successful leak tests of the temperature transducers and of the plugs. - Retest of the newly installed general purpose computer. - Reconnection and retest of ordnance devices. WORK SCHEDULED: - Flight crew arrival at KSC scheduled 3 p.m. tomorrow. - Launch at 8 a.m. EDT Saturday, June 1. Launch window closes at 10 a.m. EDT. WEATHER FORECAST: - Probability of having acceptable weather at 8 a.m. Saturday is 80 percent. For the overall window, there is a 95 percent chance of being within launch weather commit criteria. STS-43/TDRS - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2 WORK IN PROGRESS: - Cycles of the external tank doors. - Thermal protection system operations. - Main engine and main propulsion system tests. - Preparations to install the forward reaction control system. WORK COMPLETED: - Potable water servicing. - Auxiliary power unit lube oil servicing. WORK SCHEDULED: - External tank door functional test. - Nose wheel steering tests. - Brake anti-skid tests. STS-48/UARS - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1 WORK IN PROGRESS: - Work in the midbody. - Preparations to remove the three shuttle main engines. - Thermal protection system operations. - Main engine flight readiness test. - Preparations to check the forward reaction control system. STS-49 - ENDEAVOUR (OV 105) - VAB HIGH BAY 2 WORK IN PROGRESS: - Purges of the freon coolant loop. - Installation of platforms in the midbody and aft compartment.
