I have some users who have an application that they are trying to decide whether to: 1) Run on an XT usinf dBaseIII. 2) Run on a VAX8600 running Ultrix and then use Ingres. 3) Run on the VAX using something other than Ingres. 4) Get a package for a SUN3 that uses the windows and graphics to allow you to design froms. I have never used database programs before so any suggestions would be helpful. I'm told that there is no nice way to visually lay out forms with Ingres. The application they wish is: Maintain a database of equipment test records (about 50 new records a month). Generate half a dozen different forms (preferably from a LaserWriter). Be able to search the database to examine records on the screen. The search would be done on 4 or 5 different fields. (ie manufaturer's serial number, or testing number, or......) Please respond via e-mail. If there is an interest, I'll summarize to the net. -- John H.
