Hi there! I'd like to get opinions, statistics, estimates... on
how much space is lost (:-) from the necessity of specifying
fieldwiths, in any normal column oriented database.

In my experience wxDith several micro-based fixed field dbms systems
and lots of applications, I'd say if your waste was less than 35% you
were doing real well, and 50%, even 60% is not unheard of!
