[comp.databases] Using dBASE III+ over modem

jamesd@percival.UUCP (James Deibele) (08/10/87)

I understand that it's possible to access dBASE III+ databases from a remote
site using dBASE III+ --- does anyone know how this is done? In particular,
can it be done WITHOUT buying a dBASE communications library, or without using
anything but the standard dBASE programming commands?

For those who doubt it can be done, there is someone advertising a dBASE comm
library that includes Xmodem-CRC routines using dBASE.	I rather suspect that
they're calling C or assembly language routines, though, and I'd like to keep
things as pure dBASE as possible.

I'm anticipating using a BBS program of some sort to restrict access to the
database and keep an eye out for lost carrier, etc. Thanks for the help.
