[comp.databases] R Base System V Compiler

mmhen@beryl.berkeley.edu.UUCP (10/02/87)

I am working with a 3Com network of IBM PC compatibles. We use Nantucket's
Clipper to develop network database applications. Recently I became inter-
ested in RBASE. I would like to take advantage of its more powerful rela-
tional capabilities, but have not seen a compiler available.

Does anyone know of a compiler for RBASE System V which produces stand-alone
executable files?

Thanks in advance,

There is no Rbase V compiler, and don't give up Dbase for Rbase
unless you really make sure the application will fit it. Rbase is
more relational than Dbase (in an academic sense), and playing with
its relational capabilities can be fun, but it achieves its relational
power at the expense of LIMITED DATABASE SIZES, no more than 400 fields
TOTAL in one integrated database, and no more than 80 tables to divide
those 400 fields among! Rbase is a greate product for small MIS or
DS type systems (though I like Paradox better in some ways), but it
is not a good DP environment (or not as good as Dbase!)
