Suppose you took a paging virtual memory and made it permanent over system power downs, and backable up, like a file system. I think MULTICS does this. Now, would this permanent paging virtual memory be a good replacement for a DBMS for applications that typically rely on a DBMS? Alternatively, would the permanent paged VM provide an efficient basis for implementation of a DBMS?
