[comp.databases] intro to dbms needed

js07@bunny.UUCP (11/18/87)

I'd like to learn about DBMS, bu have not read anything on the
subject before; I am familiar with UNIX and C though.
Can anyone recommend a single book on the subject ?
If you can, please reply by e-mail.

I went through this same process about a year ago. The best book I found,
(at least if you are interested in data analysis & database design) is
D R Howe's "Data Analysis for Data Base Design,"
    1983, Edward Arnold Publishers, Ltd.

A man named C J Date has also written several good books, especially on SQL
based systems.

Chris Date's book "Introduction to Database Systems" 2ndEd, from
Addison-Wesley is an excellent text.
