We are planning to increase the number of groups one can be simultaneously in from 8 to 32. We actually only need around 10 at this time but 32 should mean we never have to recompile all the kernel source for this reason again. The change seemed fairly straightforward but then I ran across an oblique comment that increasing the number of groups may cause trouble with UPAGES becoming too big. Has anyone actually increased the number of groups to 16 or 32? Suggestions and information on size limitations and subtle dependencies would be welcome. It helps when asking for test time from management that you are fairly sure the change will work! Thanks for any information received. -- Bruce Freeman University of Toronto {decvax|ihnp4|utzoo}!utcs!bjf
