Not being real familiar with resource consumption related to databases (in particular, ORACLE), I'd like to get some response on the following dilema: We currently have a VAX 8350 (dual processor) with 28 MB of memory. We will soon be shopping for a DBMS of some sort. I've heard many good things about ORACLE, pricing was NOT one of them. Because of the price quote I received for an 8350 license, I'm considering buying a Microvax and licensing this. So then... o Anybody have any ideas how many users I might get on a Microvax (dedicated to ORACLE use) without regretting not purchasing the 8350 license? o Anybody currently running ORACLE on a dual processor machine? o Any thoughts on clustering a microvax to the 8350 and having the Microvax serve as a "database engine" o ...and what about INGRES, comments on either product would be extremely valuable to me. Please E-mail responses to me, unless you feel others may have some similar inquiries. Scott Thompson San Diego State University
