In my experience, Progress 4GL is the best programming
environment for business and database applications. I have also
created some very successful engineering applications using
Progress. Progress runs on MS-DOS, pc networks, Unix / Xenix,
and VAX VMS.
Is anyone interested is joining a Progress 4GL User Group? We
could share the following:
o Technical Problems
o Technical Solutions
o Any public domain software that the authors want to make
available
o Programming tips
o Info on limitations and performance of Progress under
various hardware and OS environments. (Example: Under
SCO Xenix, you're limited to about eight users, no
matter how much hardware you have. Microport 386 Unix
does not impose that same limitation). Such information
could save you a lot of thrashing around later.
o Info on ways to work around problems
o Info availability of Progress under various hardware /
OS platforms
o Whatever else you might suggest
If we're lucky, we can get Progress Software Corporation tech
support to contribute information.
In the beginning, we can exchange information right here in the
comp.databases newsgroup. If we get big enough, we could
graduate to our own newsgroup, such as comp.databases.progress.
I'd appreciate it if you could respond with:
o Your email address
o Your name
o Your postal mailing address
o Your phone (optional)
o Your company name
o Your profession
o Your degree of involvement with Progress
o Any comments about your experience with Progress
o Any suggestions about what Progress should do
o Any suggestions for the user group
PLEASE ANSWER BY EMAIL. The results will be summarized in a
subsequent article and posted to comp.databases.
Thanks,
