A week or so ago, I posted some muddled desriptions of query optimizing papers. What I did was *merged* two papers I had read into one memory. The two papers are both quite good, I think, but I attributed the conclusions of one of the papers, something like computers-are-better-at-it-than-people, to the topic of the first paper, multiple-query optimization. Any way, the two papers: Multiple-query optimization, by Timos Sellis, acm Trans. on Database Sys., March 88, 13#1. Physical database design for relational databases, by S. Finkelstein, M. Schkolnick, and P. Tiberio, same issue of TODS. PS Timos Sellis reads this group. In short--two good articles. One confused reader. Sorry.
