[comp.databases] Query Optimizers

UH2@PSUVM.BITNET (Lee Sailer) (04/22/88)

A week or so ago, I posted some muddled desriptions of query optimizing
papers. What I did was *merged* two papers I had read into one memory.

The two papers are both quite good, I think, but I attributed the conclusions
of one of the papers, something like computers-are-better-at-it-than-people,
to the topic of the first paper, multiple-query optimization.

Any way, the two papers:

Multiple-query optimization, by Timos Sellis, acm Trans. on Database Sys.,
March 88, 13#1.

Physical database design for relational databases, by S. Finkelstein, M.
Schkolnick, and P. Tiberio, same issue of TODS.

PS Timos Sellis reads this group.

In short--two good articles. One confused reader. Sorry.
