I am building a system of networked computers with database applications running Ingres 5.0 (Sun systems). Due to a desire to allow each of the systems in the network to function independently if NEEDED, we are being asked to perform updates to databases on different systems that are virtually the same. In this manner, each system has a copy of the master database and updates update all copies. With this, we could use Ingres/Net, but that isn't a necessity. I'm curious as to whether anyone else has had this problem (semi-distributed database that can be broken into multiple non- distributed databases when needed) and how they solved this (or would solve this) with this type of architecture (networked Suns and Ingres 5.0). Thanx for your input, David Masterson DMasterson@cup.portal.com
