[comp.databases] Public domain databases?

hucka@caen.engin.umich.edu (Michael Hucka) (06/27/88)

	Greetings,

I am looking for information about any available public-domain
relational database systems written in C or C++ and designed for Unix or Aegis
operating systems. The intended application is a network configuration
database system for the University of Michigan's Computer Aided Engineering
Network. We have several hundred Apollo workstations and are presently
writing our own network management tools. Most of the tools will require
access to a configuration database, which doesn't need to be fancy but does
need to be reasonably fast and have an existing procedural interface (or
be designed such that a procedural interface can be added without too much
effort). So far we have found David Betz's SDB system and are experimenting
with it, but we would like to know if any of you have encountered other,
similar systems.

If you have any helpful information on this, I would appreciate it
if you could send me a brief e-mail message. (It's probably not worth
bothering the whole net about it.)
