Hi Netlanders, I'm supposed to teach a course on "how to implement databases" (from general ideas to database scheme to working implementation on AT-class machines). It is a rather practical course, for students who supposedly know relational database theory and who have some basic programming skills. I would appreciate if someone could give me some advise on which database system to use. I was thinking of Oracle, but there is also a lot of talk about Informix, or maybe I should get yet another one? It has to have SQL for sure, and also has to be callable from C or Pascal or something. Is there anything decent that exists for both Messy Dos and Unix? It is easier if I can get the students going with Dos, so I don't have to teach them Unix as well. But once they are out in the real world, they should be able to get the same database on real computers too. Please e-mail to debra@research.att.com. Thanks in advance. Paul.
