First time reading this group. I did not even know it existed! Sorry if this has been asked before. I am looking for recommendations on a 386 based database server. The unix system it would run would be networked (NFS I guess) to other unix systems which will also contain tables for the database. Ideally it should support link to 5 other unix systems (ethernet) and 10 terminals where users can perform simple queries. I would a appreciate any recommendations for hardware to be the database server for this distributed database. We are planning to run Oracle as the engine. Any particulars on distributed databases would also be appreciated (ie, is Oracle an "ok" choice, what else do I need). In addition we have a currently installed Informix database. Any ideas on how to get Oracle and Informix to share the same tables and indexes? Is this at all possible? Thanks for any suggestions. Either post or email.
