[comp.databases] Northern California Unify Users Group News

itkin@mrspoc.UUCP (Steven M. List) (01/28/89)

It's that time again! The monthly meeting of the Northern California Unify
Users Group will be held next Wednesday, 2/1/89. As usual it will start as
close to 7PM as we can make it. The meeting is being held in the Orange
Room at the Stanford Linear Accelerator (Sand Hill Road just east of Highway
  280, Palo Alto).

Our current agenda includes the usual boring and time-consuming group
business (Treasurer's Report, Librarian's Report, Old Business, New
Business) as well as what promise to be a couple of interesting
  presentations:

Kenn Roberts, The Macoby Group, Sausalito - something from the novice's
      perspective

Dominique Emerson, Unify Corporation, Santa Clara - tools, tricks, and
      stuff from the wizard's grimoire

We will also have more in our ongoing series of discussions of standards,
guidelines, and preferences in the uses of ACCELL and Unify. I'm sorry to
say that, due to conflicts with development schedules, database derbies
(yup, one's going on in San Francisco again), and Usenix we won't have a
demo of ACCELL/SQL again this month. I'm still trying to pin down our local
Unify people, and expect we should be able to have that demo by next month.
The biggest obstacle has been getting the '386 port done so that the demo
can be done locally (like on a portable '386) rather than by modem or
something. Hang on - it's coming!

For the members of the group who are reading this - no, my name is really
NOT Stevie Zlotnick List! I'm saving this one up for payback, Sam!
Undoubtedly, most of you just wondered - Sam was having a little fun at my
expense since the article that was reprinted in the newsletter from DBMS
magazine was printed with my name as both "Steve List" and "Steven P. List"
in DBMS. I go by Steven, and my middle initial is M! So Sam, exercising
his acerbic (and questionable) Scottish wit, was making sure that I don't
take myself TOO seriously. Thanks, Sam!

For those of you who are reading this and are not yet members of the group,
we encourage you to join us. The newsletters are getting better and better.
And more informative and useful. The library is growing. The meetings
(which are open to the public) are also informative and, sometimes, even
  fun.

Finally, for those of you who are both on USENET (and read comp.databases)
and on the mailing list, my apologies for the redundancy. You will see
announcements of this sort in both places for a while.
