A few weeks ago I posted a request for info on database benchmarks - debit/credit and TP1 in particular. A recent posting by Dav Kellogg summarised most of the information I already had. There is a later Datamation paper that may also be of interest: "All TP1s Are Not Created Equal", Datamation, August 15, 1988, pp51-53. This paper describes problems in comparing two sets of TP1 results and gives a worksheet of questions to ask when comparing two sets of results. A couple of comments I received: "TP1 is generally open to much interpretation by individual vendors. Currently there is a council, called the TPC, that is working on standardizing the TP1." "Benchmark programs are generally available from the database vendors. I got mine from both Informix (Credit/Debt) and Unify (TP1). They are very useful and easy to use too. We are using TP1 to benchmark our hardware and application software." Thanks to all those that replied. If you have any other info I would be pleased to hear about it.
