[comp.databases] Shared Databases on WANS?

I am looking on information on shared databases on Wide-Area Networks.
Any such animal?  I am aware of such products for Local-Area Networks,
but I need to share data with colleagues across the country...  My
target machines are Unix and DOS based...  Any information is much
appreciated.
