We have an Informix table that contains about 20,000 rows. One of the columns has a serial index. Can anyone explain why it takes up to 15-30 seconds to do an sql query (no 4gl) to get the max (last) value of the serially indexed column? Informix creates that number itself everytime you add another row and that only takes about a second. However an SQL query takes a LOT longer. Thanks for any help, Mark Citron citron@csvax.caltech.edu citron@cit-vax.caltech.UUCP
